Create a real-life twister at the push of a button with the Fog Tornado. In this captivating exhibit, air is blown from the sides of four vertical tubes set into a tall cylindrical display. The moving air spirals upward to form an invisible whirling vortex. A mist of water vapor is added to the airstream to reveal the unmistakable funnel-cloud shape of a tornado. An air vortex like this occurs regularly in nature, creating weather phenomena such as hurricanes, waterspouts, and dust devils. However, the spinning vortex is only visible when objects are pulled into its air current — like when leaves swirl together on a windy day.
