See how high — and how accurately — you can propel a tennis ball into the air with this memorable exhibit about basic laws of physics and pneumatics. The Tennis Ball Launcher has users pull a rope to lift and drop a counter weight placed inside an acrylic cylinder. As the weight falls, it squeezes (or compresses) the air below it through a metal tube connected to another cylinder holding a tennis ball. The incoming air particles hurl against the tennis ball, launching it upward. Guests can control the height of the launch as they pull and release the counterweight from various heights.
